2015 Participants

GianMario Besana is the Associate Provost for Global Engagement and Online Learning at DePaul University. Under his guidance, DePaul’s faculty training program for online teaching was recognized in 2012 with the Sloan-C award for best faculty development program for online teaching in the US. The two sides of his portfolio recently came together in the creation of the Global Learning Experience program, aimed at supporting DePaul’s faculty members who wish to engage in COIL courses.

Imara V. Dawson is Executive Director of the Rinker Center for International Programs (RCIP) at Ball State University. In this capacity he provides administrative leadership for RCIP and serves as the Senior International Officer for the University. His research areas include examining the relationship between the public sector, private sector and non-governmental organizations as a collaborative model for international development. He holds a JD and MPA both from Indiana University-Bloomington, and a BA in History from Hampton University.

Lydia Lazar is the Director of the Energy and Environment Research Cluster for the Great Cities Institute of the University of Illinois at Chicago. She previously held leadership, lecturer and administrative positions at Yeshiva University, at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. She holds an AB from Dartmouth College, an MA from Columbia University and a JD from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Amy Rell is founding Dean of Global Education at Regis University.  Rell is Phi Beta Kappa, a Fulbright Scholar and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow.  Rell completed the Harvard University Women in Leadership certificate program and has served on the executive board for the AJCU International Education Committee and the Hispanic Chamber Education Foundation.  She holds a PhD and MA from UCLA and a BA from Tulane University.

 

Melissa Schuessler is International Director at Leeds University Business School.  She is responsible for international partnerships and intercultural learning.  She holds an MA in Intercultural Education and Internationalisation at Durham University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. 
Solon Simmons is an Associate Professor of Conflict Analysis and Resolution and Vice President for Global Strategy at George Mason University. Solon is a sociologist with research expertise in the analysis of legacies of abusive power and the deep roots of political conflict. As Mason’s senior international officer, Solon is chairman of the board of Mason Korea LLC, the entity that oversees the operation of Mason’s Korean campus and executive sponsor of Mason’s Confucius Institute.  
JR Swanegan is the Director of International Programs at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida.  He came to Stetson in 2013 from the University of Missouri-Columbia where he held several posts including Director of Study Abroad, International and Diversity Outreach for the College of Engineering.  Swaneganearned his BA in political science and his JD in law from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
