AIEA is excited to offer a new Advanced SIO Leadership Academy! This is a year-long professional development built around the four AIEA professional standards:

  • International Expertise
  • Leadership and Management
  • Advocacy
  • Personal Effectiveness

Centered around the needs of individual cohorts, this year-long program will be facilitated by Dr. Annie Phillips, Texas Women’s University and Dr. Gonzalo Bruce, Boise State University. The facilitators will engage and guide participants through peer learning and reflection through meaningful exercises, activities, and discussions. The Academy is focused on equipping you with fresh skills and tools that will help you advance internationalization on your campus and your role as Senior International Officer.

As a cohort member of the Advanced Senior International Officer Leadership Academy, you will:

1.    Receive state of the art literature on the international education field.
2.    Learn techniques for problem solving focused on complex issues.
3.    Assess strengths and weaknesses of the divisions/areas for which you are responsible.
4.    Make the case for internationalization using storytelling techniques.
5.    Connect your organization’s strategy with personal growth areas to secure achieving your goals.

The training will consist of the following:

Virtual Pre- Meeting:
All participants must attend a 60-90-minute virtual pre-meeting before retreat.

In- Person Training: Participants are requested to arrive on Tuesday afternoon in time for a welcome dinner on Tuesday evening. The following Wednesday and Thursday will feature working sessions. The program will end by noon on Thursday. Breakfasts and lunches are included in registration fee.

Follow-Up Virtual Meetings: All participants must attend two follow-up virtual pre-meetings throughout the remainder of the year.

AIEA Conference Meeting: An in-person meeting will also be held at the AIEA annual conference.

PROGRAM GOAL

The goal is to provide directed and ongoing educational and developmental opportunities for advanced Senior International Officers with six+ years of experience in the field of international education. The program will focus on one standard each successive year allowing members to attend to address relevant topics

Participants will gain the following:

  1. In-depth understanding of and ability to apply AIEA professional standards within the context of their institution
  2. Expansion of professional network through membership in a cohort of international education experts
  3. Ongoing and immersive professional development experiences that provide opportunities for exploration, investigation, reflection, connection, application.

PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE

Participants:

The program will accept a limited number of Senior International Officers (SIOs) at higher education institutions with a minimum of 6 years as an SIO as defined by AIEA at an institution of higher education.

Important notes:

  • AIEA will notify applicants of the status of their applications within 30 days of the submission of their applications
  • Participants/Facilitators are required to participant in the full training and all scheduled events. Late arrival and early departure will not be permitted.
  • Academy fees are due in full within 25 business days of notification of acceptance
  • AIEA Academy participants are responsible for securing any visas needed; AIEA can issue an invitation letter upon receipt of full payment

Fees and payment 

The early registration fee for the 2023 Advanced Academy is $1100 for members and $1400 for non-members. After June 30th, the registration fee is $1250 members and $1550 for non-members. This fee covers the cost of lodging (Tuesday and Wednesday night), all academy materials, welcome reception/dinner Tuesday evening, breakfasts (Wednesday-Thursday), all break snacks and beverages, lunches (Wednesday- Thursday). Participants will be responsible for their own travel expenses, airport transfers. Payments are required within 10 days of acceptance. 

Cancellation Policy 

Refunds are possible if notification is given in writing to [email protected] by the dates specified below:

June 30, 2023
• Deadline for cancellation with 50% refund 


July 31, 2023
• Deadline for cancellation with 25% refund 

September 29, 2023
 • Last day to submit an application for the 2023 Advance Leadership Academy (note—this program may fill prior to Sept 29; you are encouraged to apply ASAP)

*Please also note that AIEA is not responsible for any fees that might be subtracted from the refunded amount to cover bank transfer or service charges.  Please ensure that you are including sufficient funds to cover these fees. 

No refund is possible after July 31, 2023

AIEA is not responsible for problems beyond our control such as weather conditions, campus conditions, travel difficulties, visa problems, health issues, etc. No refunds will be given in these situations that may impact participation in the Academy.
